  6.     SOFTWARE PACKAGE CONTENTS
  7.  
  8.     The Windows95 Maui software package contains (1) 3.5" 1.44M diskette,
  9.     for the installation of DOS mode and Windows95 drivers.

  12.     INSTALLATION PROCESS
  13.  
  14.     It is recommended that you print this out and have a hard copy in
  15.     front of you while installing the drivers.

  19.                                 SECTION I
  20.                           INSTALLING THE DRIVERS
  21.        
  22.     1.     Make sure you have the driver disk handy.  If you downloaded this
  23.     driver package, then you need to copy all the files onto a floppy
  24.     disk.  The driver should not be installed from a hard disk 
  25.     directory.
  26.  
  27.     2.     If Windows95 is running, select the START button and select SHUT
  28.     DOWN, then 'Shut Down the Computer'.  When you are clear to do so,
  29.     power off the computer, and plug the Maui card into a slot.  
  30.  
  31.     Even if the Maui is already installed, powering down is still a
  32.     good idea.  Leave the computer off for about a minute.  Turning
  33.     the computer off and then right back on can damage the peripherals
  34.     inside.
  35.  
  36.     3.  Power on the computer.  While it is booting up, hit the F8 key as
  37.     soon as you see the message "Starting Windows95...".  From the menu,
  38.     select 'Safe Mode'.  It will take a few minutes, but once you've
  39.     entered Safe Mode, go to the Device Manager and double-click on
  40.     'Sound, Video, and Game Controllers'.  Remove the Maui driver (if
  41.     installed).

  43.     Even though you may have uninstalled them before, Windows95 has
  44.     the nasty habit of letting some sound card drivers hang around.
  45.     It is a good idea to remove any that you are not currently using.

  47.     When you are finished, close the Device Manager.  Click on the 
  48.     START button, then SHUT DOWN.  Select 'Restart the computer' and
  49.     let it reboot.

  51.     4.  Once you enter Windows95 again, double click on the My Computer
  52.     icon and then on the Control Panel icon.  Then double click on
  53.     the Add New Hardware icon.
  54.  
  55.     5.     When Windows95 asks you to search for new hardware, select 'no'
  56.     and proceed to the next window.
  57.  
  58.     6.     Windows 95 will display a list of device categories that you can
  59.            install from.  Select 'Sound, Video, and Game Controllers', and
  60.     then 'Next' to proceed.
  61.  
  62.     7.     Windows 95 will display another list of manufacturers and their
  63.     products.  Place Disk 1 (of this driver package) in your floppy 
  64.     drive, and click on the 'Have Disk...' button.  It may bring up 
  65.     a dialog box asking which drive the disk is in.  Select the drive
  66.     the disk is in.

  68.     8.     Once the disk is read, Windows95 will bring up a list of devices
  69.     you can install.  This list will only have one option, the Turtle
  70.     Beach Maui WaveFront Synthesizer.

  72.     9.     Click on the Turtle Beach Maui and then click on 'Next' to install
  73.     the drivers.  Windows95 will allow you to view the settings (via the
  74.     'Details' button) that it has determined will work for your system.
  75.     Don't worry; you can change those later if you want to.  Windows95
  76.     will then copy some files from the floppy disk then prompt you to
  77.     finish.  Click on 'Finish' and you will be asked to restart your
  78.     system.  Select 'yes' and restart.

  80.     The WaveFront port address is based on the hardware jumper settings
  81.     on the Maui sound card.  This port address must match what you
  82.     have the Maui set to in order to work.  Windows95 cannot determine
  83.     the jumper settings and will default to port 330 (if it does not
  84.     conflict with another device).  You can change this after restarting
  85.     the computer to whatever your jumpers are set at.

  90.                            CHANGES TO YOUR SYSTEM

  94.     All changes to Windows will be made in the Registry, and nothing
  95.     will appear in the SYSTEM.INI file.  All previous entries should
  96.     be deleted.

  100.                                  SECTION III
  101.                         KNOWN PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS
  102.  
  103.     1)     This installation copies a new WFPATCH.INI into your Windows95 
  104.            directory.  This file lists the locations of the WaveFront banks
  105.     (which you may or may not have all installed).  You may need to use
  106.            Notepad (or another text editor) to edit the file to change the 
  107.     directory to where the file(s) actually is/are.
  108.  
  109.     2)     If you play a DOS game from within Windows95, and it uses the Maui
  110.            as a General MIDI card, there is a good chance that Windows95 will 
  111.            "lose" the WaveFront synthesizer on return to Windows95.  You must
  112.     restart Windows95 to get it back.
  113.  
  114.     3)  There is a problem with the Maui WaveFront driver for Windows95
  115.     and the native Tahiti drivers for Windows95.  There seems to be a
  116.     conflict between the two.  We recommend not using these drivers
  117.     if you have a Tahiti and the native drivers for it (TAHITI95.ZIP)
  118.     installed on your system.

  122.                   SECTION IV
  123.                  CHANGES AND UPDATES
  124.    
  125.     1)     The download code configuration file (OSWF.MOT or OSMAUI.MOT) has
  126.     been renamed to WFMAUI.MOT to coincide with the new drivers.  In
  127.     DOS mode, if you run the SETUPSND program, please point it to the
  128.     new file and not the old one.
  129.  
  130.     2)    The Control Panel now has a Quick Start option to make it load
  131.     faster.  It does so by not reinitializing the synth, which will
  132.     mean that you do not have access to SampleStore features.  You
  133.     must disable the Quick Start if you will be uploading samples to
  134.     the card.

  136.     To do so, launch the Control Panel and select "Synth" from the menu
  137.     and uncheck the 'Quick Start' option.  Close and restart the Control
  138.     Panel.
